Northern Territory announces plans to become bag-free in 2011

Environment Minister, Karl Hampton has annouced plans for the Northern Territory to become the second state in Australia to ban single use, non-biodegradable plastic bags. This initiative will reduce the number of plastic bags circulated in the country by 40 million bags! A phase out is expected to begin in March 2011 with a full ban commencing June 2011.
