Northern Territory announces plans to become bag-free in 2011

11 Aug 2010 -

  Environment Minister, Karl Hampton has annouced plans for the Northern Territory to become the second state in Australia to ban single use, non-biodegradable plastic bags. This initiative will reduce the number of plastic bags circulated in the country by 40 million bags! A phase out is expected to begin in March 2011 with a full ban commencing June 2011. Queen Victoria Market ban plastic bags in their Meat and Deli Halls

  The Queen Victoria Market have introduced a phase out of plastic bags within their Meat and Deli halls starting from the 1st of July 2010. This tremendous decision is the beginning of a longer term plan to get the entire Market plastic free within the next 12 months.
