becausewecare™ BF90-A Bags Win Tender for Target Australia’s Biodegradable Shopping Bags

27 Sep 2011 -

Following an extensive tender process conducted by Target Australia for their shopping bag program it was announced today that becausewecare Pty Ltd had been successful in being awarded the contract for the supply of its biodegradable shopping bags for the next three years.  This tender, was won after a complete review of product, service and price against a number of global biodegradable bag suppliers and shows both the quality and the competitiveness of the becausewecare bag range.

becausewecare Pty Ltd , one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of biodegradable products, has worked with Target for the past three years to develop the biodegradable bag program and is extremely proud of its achievements in this field.

Discussing the tender outcome, becausewecare Pty Ltd Managing Director, Mr Kenny Lay, said, “We are extremely proud of the work that we have done over the past three years to assist Target in moving away from traditional plastic shopping bags and we are particularly pleased to be able to continue to assist Target over the next three years in their commitment to reduce their impact on the environment through offering customers a choice of biodegradable shopping bags.”

Mr Lay said “This outcome not only underlines the quality of the products we produce and offer but also the quality of the becausewecare team and I want to publicly thank all of our local and international team members for their commitment.  Mr Lay continued by saying, “this outcome shows what retailers can achieve if they take the initiative and make a stand against using plastic shopping bags.”

Target is one of Australia's largest retailers, committed to delivering great quality and great value clothing, homewares and general merchandise.  In June 2009, Target Australia took a retail leadership role becoming the first major Australian retailer to remove plastic shopping bags from their stores nationally.  This removed over 100 million traditional plastic shopping bags each year that may have gone to landfill.

Since that time the Northern Territory and ACT, have both passed similar laws banning plastic retail bags and it is believed that Tasmania is planning on announcing an even more wide spread ban in the near future.

We encourage Retailers and retail distributors with requirements for biodegradable and compostable bags to speak to the team at becausewecare Pty Ltd at their Derrimut, Melbourne, Head Office, on (03) 9931 6888 or to contact Because We Care through this website.
