Environmental Testing

becausewecare™ is very proud to have become the first company in the world to be certified to conform to Australian Standard AS4736-2006, and receive authorisation to display the new Australasian Seedling Logo compostable certification from the Australasian Bioplastics Association (ABA).

Further to that we are equally proud to have been the first company to be certified to meet the requirements of AS5810 - 2010  the Australasian Home Compostability certification and to carry the Compost Bin Logo.

When it comes to selecting a Biodegradable and Compostable product the first questions which potential users should ask their supplier is "Is your product certified as a compostable product to one of the internationally accepted standards and then, do you know the difference between a ‘degradable’ and ‘biodegradable’ plastic bag?" Unfortunately, not many distributors and end consumers do and many plastics manufacturers have taken advantage of this, exploiting the term ‘degradable’ as a marketing tool. To highlight this issue, rigorous standards have been developed in the US, Europe and in Australasia, to test the validity of any eco-friendly claims.

becausewecare™ compostable and biodegradable products are also certified to meet the American Standard ASTM D6400 by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI), To BNQ 0017-988 - 2010 by the Canadian Bureau de Normalisation Quebec and the European standard EN 13432-2000 by Din Certco in Germany and by TUV Vincotte in Austria.

All becausewecare™ products have undergone extensive environmental testing, initially at Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia and subsequently had further testing completed at the globally respected Organic Waste Systems in Ghent, Belgium to continually reaffirm their certification status . Both our BF90 and KF90 series resins and finished products have received certification at every stage of the production process, from the manufacture of our resin bead through to our finished printed products. We have achieved this by using soy-based inks that have been specifically developed for our compostable products.

If there is a product that you’re interested in, which claims to be compostable or biodegradable, ask to see a relevant certification from the manufacturer. For further information, visit the ABA, BPI or OWS websites or send us an email.
